We are a local family passionate about food and travel and whenever we can we spend our time exploring the world with our four children. Our love of exploration and culinary journeys has resulted in a passion for recreating the foods we have encountered – from Indian Thali plates to Palestinian hummus To Turkish inspired salads and more.
Gastropod Catering started life as a café situated on the beautiful Cornish Tipi Holidays site inland from Port Isaac on the North Cornwall Coast. For seven years we traded from a unique polytunnel and open kitchen set-up, running World Food pop up nights in the summer, offering delicious breakfasts to campers on site and then moving on to cater for weddings and private events etc.
Our Gastropod Café was a sister site to our well established Snail’s Pace Café situated in Wenfordbridge in North Cornwall - at the start of the popular cycling route the Camel Trail.
At the end of the 2023 season we made the difficult decision after seven seasons to move on from running the café itself and to concentrate on our original café on the Camel Trail, and our developing Events Catering business (two cafes, an events catering business and four children was becoming a handful even for us…!).
Commitment to the environment and sustainability is at the core of what we do – from watching our food miles (we use as many local suppliers as possible), to a commitment to fair-trade and organic where possible, to the use of eco cleaning products and the recycling and composting of all packaging and any food waste – we are determined our ecological footprint be as light as possible.
Although we cater for all diets we do lean towards the meat-free in our cooking and recently we have made the decision to stop buying in fish – unless caught very locally and on a very small scale.
We are particularly keen bakers – whether it be a fabulously traditional Cornish cream tea or our famous gluten free chocolate brownies served with clotted cream or our very popular vegan lemon & berry cake. We can provide ‘celebration’ cakes for your special day home baked and always using organic flour (we don’t offer the traditional wedding cakes but can point you in the direction of those that do).
